RAPE !
The word itself brings uneasiness in our head. Be it men or women. We both get weird feeling, something which can only be expressed through anger, disgust probably through filthy words !! Isn’t it ?
Anyway, the point is not to talk about rape but to talk about how rape incident is being raped by media nowadays. Media is considered to be one of the strongest pillar of society and a democratic country. However, today media has become just a pawn. Yea, its being used by politicians to gather support or create unrest. It is being used by businessmen, to make commercial profits. And not to forget developed countries has always used their powerful and cash strapped media against developing countries to create a sense of supremacy.
It’s all a mind game. it’s a game to play with psychology with people of developing countries and people of their own country.
Let’s analyse this by a Rape Incident which is gathering headlines nowadays all over media, #NirbhayaRape case.
A BBC sponsored reporter had made a documentary in 2013 (if reports are to believed) on Nirbhaya Rape case. I have personally watched that documentary. Had it been just a documentary then there is nothing wrong in it. As it has both parts, how a rapist think, defense lawyers arguments, society’s response and girl’s family.
However, the way this documentary has been propped up and being advertised, it solely explains two aspects. One, commercial gains expected, second is to achieve or rather create a sense of mindset among people that India is country with sick society.
As far as my memory goes and have observed, I haven’t come across any documentary with something positive about a developing country, which achieved so much response from both side developed and developing country.
By using this documentary or rather Rape incidents, Developed nation’s are trying to create a sense of supremacy among their own people. They trying to make them believe that life in developed country is far better than any other part of the world. And it’s like blindfolding your own people.
Also, this topic when being popped up and discussed in media which is entirely funded by investors of developed nations, creates a sense of insecurity in people of developing country. You will see, society starts feeling inferior. It starts feeling low. As it is happening in India, the educated class has started feeling that Indian society is sick. The people have more of dirt in their head. And this leads to a far reaching effect. It’s a slow poison, which is being given day by day. How can and how society will ever grow if it starts feeling that its existence itself is in danger and is based on low values.
As far as Rape is concerned, I don’t wish to go to much into depth. If any of you is interested, do some search on Google and find out yourself the data on rape in most developed countries.
“Police in England and Wales recorded 24,043 rapes in the year to the end of September, a jump of 31 per cent over the previous 12 months (Independent)”
“There were 22,116 recorded rapes in the year to June, a rise of 29% on the year before, police figures released by the Office for National Statistics show (BBC)”

Above is just few excerpts. There’s load which you can dig out.
If you really feel and it is hurting you then better take it and act sensibly. Add value to society. Feel ashamed as a society but don’t feel inferior to any nation or individual’s of any country.
Rape is a disease. Every country, society had it, has it, will have it. It’s on us how we can minimize the effect of it and it’s growth.
Keep your chin up. Make an incident as an opportunity to awaken your strength. Use this strength and contribute to society. Be strong, be wise and act sensible.
You have just nailed it ! 100% agreed with you
